The first Forbes Ranking was published in 2007, aiming to measure the best universities in the USA on the basis of added value for students.
After pausing for one year, it has just released the 2021 ranking of top colleges, featuring the new methodology to โbetter account for which schools are serving as true engines of the American dreamโ. It is based on the return on investment and outcomes schools delivered for their students. In other words, schools whose students graduated on time, secured high salaries and low debt, and went on to have successful careers, are placed well.
The ranking is based on the indicators of Alumni Salary (20%), Debt (15%), Return on Investment (15%), Graduation Rate (15%), Forbes American Leaders List (15%), Retention Rate (10%) and Academic Success (10%).
This year, for the first time on Forbes ranking as well as on other major rankings, a public university, University of California, Berkeley, has topped the ranking. Also, out of the top 25 universities in this yearโs ranking, six are public universities.
