Medical School Admission Seminar (Dr. Christopher See & Mr. Jeffrey Lo)
On the 17th July 2016, the Norton House community had the pleasure of hearing from two experts in the field of medical school admissions; an individual who has already undertaken such a task and is now a qualified doctor, and someone who is currently working towards that dream at one of the most intense medical courses available. Respectively, they are none other than Dr. Christopher See and Mr. Jeffrey Lo.
The productive afternoon kicked off with Jeffrey Lo introducing the specific qualities and application procedure for those wishing to study medicine in Hong Kong as a non-JUPAS student.
Dr. Christopher See continued the talk, now focusing on BMAT sample questions and how one could answer them best. Together with the audience, he picked apart sample questions and explained the logical rationale behind the answer to each one. It was surprising as to how much we overthink things, when the answer is as simple as, “how many shapes here vs. how many shapes there?”
The unique combination of Mr. Jeffrey Lo’s expertise and guidance when it came to Hong Kong admissions and Dr. Christopher See’s unique take on the BMAT and UKCAT tests and personal statements was a fantastic opportunity for us all to learn. Dr. Christopher See, an experienced TED talker and published author of medical aptitude test guidebooks for aspiring university students, ended the talk with a simple, yet key and commonly overlooked point: start preparing now, get a head start and get into a routine, and you will be astounded as to how much of a difference this will make to your final results. Remember, UKCATs start in October, the earlier you prepare the better!
